Writing, Publishing & Marketing Your Book

The vision of the Writers' Forum on SpotlightRichmond.com and this blog is to create a place where Christian writer's can gather to be encouraged and be a source of encouragement by sharing ideas and very practical information about writing, publishing and marketing their book.

For Aspiring Authors
The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron is an excellent first step. Have you read it? Please share your thoughts and experiences. Three of the Basic Principles that Cameron shares are:
-Creativity is the natural order of life. Life is energy: pure creative energy.
-As we open ourselves to exploring our creativity, we open ourselves to God: good orderly
directions.
-Our creative dreams and yearnings come from a divine source. As we move toward our
dreams, we move toward our divinity.

The two tools she offers are: Morning Pages & The Artist's Date
I have used morning pages for years, but have rarely gifted myself with an Artist's Date. How about you? What do you think?

Self-Publishing
Are you a self-published author? What method did you use? Would you recommend it to others? I have listed a lot of resources on SpotlightRichmond.com. You personal experience is valuable to others. Thank you for sharing.

Marketing Your Book - Bulk Sales
I recently attended Renee Bobb's, Self-publishing workshop. It was excellent! I was a little surprised to hear people saying that book stores are the worst place to sell books. I have since done additional research. For people who write specialized books - which might include inspirational books - looking for a specialized market is very important.

Idea Party
Let's have an Idea Party about your book. What's an Idea Party? Brainstorming at it's very best. This is a tool introduced by Barbara Sher and the results are always amazing. Details are available at: SpotlightRichmond.com.

Hi my name is Terry and I am currently in the process of writing a humorous book about politics. I decided early on that I wanted to feature illustrations to correspond with my chapters so I had a friend of mine provide the illustrations. I promised him that I'd help advertise his work so I thought I'd post a link to his portfolio in case any other authors were looking for an artist to illustrate their books. So here it is: http://ward.carbonmade.com/. My friend produces inexpensive, quality work. I hope this doesn't sound too much like a commercial. Thanks guys.
